Alzheimer’s disease is the common cause of the loss of cognitive functioning, remembering, etc. So, Alzheimer’s disease is the main cause of dementia. The symptoms of this disease are memory loss, language problem, etc. If we want to find a medication that will totally cure Alzheimer’s disease, then this is not going to happen.

Medicines can only be used to treat the symptoms of this disease. It reduces the various symptoms like memory loss, mental disability, etc. Now medicinal treatment for Alzheimer’s disease is important, but its beneficial side is less. The non-drug treatment is not so important, and it helps the people to live well when they are attacked with the Alzheimer’s disease.

There are two types of medications that can be used to treat Alzheimer’s, and these are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and NMDA receptor antagonists. Their working process is also different.

The cholinesterase inhibitors which are commonly prescribed for this disease are:

1) Donepezil inhibitor is used for the treatment of all stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
2) Galantamine( Razadyne) is used for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.
3) Rivastigmine( Exelon) used for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.

Treatment for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease

The cholinesterase inhibitors used to prevent different mild to moderate symptoms. These cholinesterase inhibitors can prevent the breakdown of the chemical Acetylcholine that is present in the brain cells. Acetylcholine used for memory improvement and thinking. Due to the increase of Alzheimer’s disease, the production of acetylcholine also decreases, so the effect of cholinesterase also reduced.

For moderate to severe Alzheimer’s

Namenda, another type of medication is used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease. This type of medication is used to delay the symptoms that are related to moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. Namenda can regulate the important brain chemical Glutamate, but an excessive amount can cause brain damage.

Use of oxiracetam for treatment of Alzheimer’s disease

Oxiracetam is one type of nootropic used to treat Alzheimer’s disease. It has stimulatory nature and can improve mental focus and brain power. It also improves concentration, learning, and mental ability. It also helps to release acetylcholine and glutamate to improve memory power.
